Sky Burial's Latest...

... a little late on this, but Sky Burial are releasing Where Four Rivers Flow on LP through Replenish Records. I have definitely been digging this a lot lately.

Formed in Tennessee in early 2009, Sky Burial is a four-piece band from Nashville that combines elements of doom, post-metal, and post-rock to create a somber, yet peaceful atmosphere of minimalistic arrangements and passionate segues.  The band's heavily instrumental approach to post-metal is sparsely decorated with messages of self-betterment and hope.

The Pyramids And Wraiths Collaboration...

...is finally available.

Limited to 350 copies on single sided Clear vinyl and just 50 copies on tape. This might be one of those uber rare releases that you spend a bunch of time tracking down to complete your collection.

'Magpie & Raven' sees Pyramids at their most sprawling and with moments of ultimate bombast. With piano provided by Clay Ruby (Burial Hex) as an integral part, the 25 minute plus track weaves around this motif with massive guitars and a spoken word performance that is truly epic before everything dissolves in a maelstrom of organic noise as Wraiths eviscerate the previous musical section to its very atomic particles before all comes together again and the track ends with a sense of calm conclusion.

This amazing release is presented as a limited edition one-sided clear vinyl LP in a signature AB vellum-style sleeve with artwork by noted tattoo artist Simon Erl. The multi-layered artwork can all be soon as one whole when held up to the light. Comes with an MP3 download card. Housed in heavy PVC outer sleeve.

OLD MAN GLOOM!

So last night I finally saw Old Man Gloom. I literally had been waiting since 1999 when I heard Meditations In B for the first time. They did not disappoint. All the goodies were played (Rape Athena, Gift, hell so many good ones) and even a short version of Zozobra (THEY PLAYED ZOZOBRA!) My mind is still reeling a bit. Here is video of the set.

Grabbed their new album while there. NO is awesome. This version at the shows is a tour edition limited to just 300 copies with hand stamped center labels. This will be available for those not able to make the shows around June 26th. Nine new tracks...

1. Grand Inversion
2. Common Species
3. Regain / Rejoin
4. To Carry The Flame
5. The Forking Path
6. Shadowed Hand
7. Rats
8. Crescent
9. Shuddering Earth

Seriously, the show was so good.

New From Holy Terror ---- Oede

This Oede 7" is up for presale at Holy Terror records. The red vinyl will be limited to 200.

Grab it here.

"I get really inspired by sonic outcasts, weirdos and freakazoids, because when they make music, no fucking rules can imprision their vision! OEDE is a one man band from Norway, and he creates his own brand of awesome music that would be almost impossible to peg down. His new EP, entitled One Man’s Trash, will be out early May via Holy Terror Records. Unholy hell, this record is a huge excerise in creativity that is ultra intense and has the bright sun of a southern swamp shining through. OEDE is a crazed voodoo priest trapped in a Nordic body – when you listen to One Man’s Trash a couple of times, it will all make sense to you. He knows how to cook up his own audio discord that is seasoned with cyco blues and black noise. On the opening track, “Stille Stille,” he lays down this demented dirty Cajun riff with a demonic voice floating on top of putrid groove. Just as OEDE knows how to work subversive melody into his song structure, he knows how to torment your braincells with noise! Take his song “8063″ for instance – it’s layers of feedback at war with chaotic distortion, but even under that you hear his tweaked voice with emotive guitar. When I listen to One Man’s Trash, I know I’m playing a very special record that might not be understood the way it should be. I really hope I’m wrong, because honestly, it should end up on some end of the year lists. This dude has an amazing voice that sounds like 1000 demons puking at the same time. OEDE shows he has the ability to shatter what we might consider normal and allow his influences to speak in many different tongues while speaking with one voice! You feel the cold bite of his sound when the blackened noise starts to rip off your face. That all changes with the last song, “Under Creole Skies,” that will awaken spirits in your mind that you never knew existed. One Man’s Trash is another human’s sonic glory – thanks OEDE for having the courage to create such an awesome record!" - CVLTNATION

Circle Of Eyes Debut LP

This self titled album from Circle Of Eyes looks pretty awesome. Check out Viraloptic for more pictures. For those that do not know here is some more info:

Circle of Eyes is the ambient doom project from Sutekh Hexen's Kevin Gan Yuen and Necrite's Thrull. This recording also features vocals by James R. of Swamp Witch and Your Enemy.

Circle of Eyes was conceived in 2008 for the love of resonance and embracing the realization of decay in the intent to record/release records and perform the occasional live performance. The creative core-duo of Kevin Gan Yuen (Sutekh Hexen, Fermentæ, OGHAM) along with Thrull (Black Fucking Cancer and Necrite) proceed with Circle of Eyes as an on-going project in the practice of unraveling and challenging the conventional notions of the loud, slow and down-tuned metal traditions of the Bay Area's rich sonic tapestry. Joined by vocalist/collaborator James R. (Swamp Witch and Your Enemy) this entity's uncompromising collective vision is to present an exclusive aural documentation of the unquestionable decay of black metal, drone, and experimental music genres.

With three mammoth tracks that spread over 37 minutes, this recording is mastered by James Plotkin specifically for the vinyl and digital formats. The artwork and design was executed by Kevin Gan Yuen with help from Stephen Wilson for an 18” x 24” fold-out poster and Icelandic (by way of Sweden) artist and musician Jóhannes Gunnar Þorsteinsson (Ziz) for the insert photography. The jackets are a tip-on style, single sleeve jacket printed from Stoughton Printing Company, black dust sleeves, a three button set that’s housed in a black zip lock bag, and a download card printed on 32 lb. metallic stock to redeem the entire recording which also includes the re-mastered 2009 demo as an an added bonus. With everything included, this is 90:06 of drone madness... test your psyche!

Edition run of 325 copies in three different color variations: 160 on black vinyl, 110 on white vinyl, and 55 on orange vinyl.

Sounds awesome too, listen below order here:

Endpoint Repress!

OK, so yeah In A Time Of Hate is no Catharsis, but what record really is. It is still an important record in the hardcore scheme of things and by a band that is severely underrated today (though back in the day, they could pull over 1,000 people to a show)

This was reissued on a resurrected Simba Records:

limited to 500, hand numbered.
silk screen covers.
red marble wax.

Check out the craziness:

Finally, A New Loveliescrushing

Shiny Tiny Stars is the latest album from this great two piece.

This is the NEW album from darkwave/drone pioneers lovesliescrushing, and the most recent installment in our Dark Icons Series.

"Shiny Tiny Stars" is a milestone in more ways than one: all of its material is new to release, and contains both songs written and recorded as recent as this year, alongside lost tracks originally intended for the first album that have not surfaced until now. Due to its canonical nature, this album truly is an accurate representation of one of the most powerful and innovative forces in experimental music.

From ALL MUSIC "The duo known as Lovesliescrushing first came together in the early '90s, when vocalist Melissa Arpin and multi-instrumentalist Scott Cortez decided to try their hand at the emerging dream pop scene. They began to send out demo tapes of their bizarre, heavily layered music to labels until Projekt finally contacted the band about releasing a single. 1994's Your Eyes Immaculate was the result, a single that so impressed the label that a year later they released the full-length Bloweyelashwish. The album was a mix of ethereal textures, wordless female vocals, and repetitive droning that set them apart from many of the label's gothic artists. Cortez would speak out loudly about how the music was all formed from guitar sounds, something that he was proud of if only because he was accused so much of using keyboards on the album. The band was back the next year with Xuvetyn, another complicated album of lush sounds that moved the sound further in the direction of experimental music. But the band would drop off after promoting that album, working on a new studio album for years and years while still promising that they were together. They finally announced in 2001 that they were ready to edit and release the album, although the year went by without any news outside of that tidbit. The next year proved golden for fans: Arpin and Cortez remerged with a third album. Intricate and glossy, Glissceule was issued on Sonic Syrup in March 2002."

Edition: 300 LP, 180 gram. First 100 orders get a limited edition 5.25"Floppy Disk with an exclusive lovesliescrushing track.

Pinkish Black Debut LP...

...is now available from Handmade Birds.

Simply put, this one of the best albums you will hear this year-- we really mean this decade, but will try to maintain some modesty. Monstrous doomwaves of texture and deathrock coming from just two people that crushes in both a live setting and in the studio. Though this is the debut full length from a relatively new outfit, the decades spent refining their art in various other bands (including dark Denton icons Pointy Shoe Factory, and the wall of sound that is Yeti) has all culminated into a refined, dark opus, that is utterly the most innovative and refreshing music you'll have heard this side of Suicide.

From the ominous cloud of post melodic sludge (Bodies In Tow) to the raging fanaticism akin to the best moments of classic The Birthday Party or Filth era Swans (Fall Down), Pinkish Black offer a true homage to the album as entity. Bow to the sonic shrine that has been so carefully constructed. Weep and rage. This is the sound of true musicianship from two people that live for their craft. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

From Ft. Worth, TX, Pinkish Black is Daron Beck (Pointy Shoe Factory) and Jon Teague (Yeti), continuing the musical evolution they began as The Great Tyrant (with the late Tommy Atkins). Their music is in turns abrasive, turbulent, darkly melodic, and hauntingly beautiful -- the soundtrack for a fever dream. Fans of Suicide, Magma, and Scott Walker should lend an ear. Mastered by James Plotkin.

Edition: 250 LP, 180 gram. First 100 orders get a limited 5.25" Floppy Disk with an exclusive Pinkish Black track, and a download code for a PB Christian Death cover and digital copy of the album.
