GHOLAS split up for pre-order

The pre-order for the Dans L’isolement Solidaires 5 way split LP has been live for a few weeks. It is a British label so keep that in mind when ordering, though I will say that even though you are importing the LP, you will pay in US dollars or what have you around the same amount as a domestic Hydra Head release ( which is crazy actually).

The GHOLAS family...

... just became a little bit bigger as of two weeks ago today. My wife and I brought our son, Alexander into this world on the 7th of March this 2011, and we could not be happier (even if a bit tired and exhausted).

Big News: Soon, Dög Knights Productiöns will launch vinyl preorders for a five way split featuring Life in the Dark (Z. Zsigo of Maths, Livimorket and probably a billion others), It Is Imperative, Black Day Architecture, and Us. The comp has an alternative/extended take of "From Hundreds of Millions of Miles" from Загадка. Get Stoked.

The record is called Dans L'isolement Solidaires and we could not be more excited to be a part of this record. Go here to hear some of the tracks (however our track is not really the track that will be on the album as bandcamp could not deal with the epic outrageousness of Gholas.

Hopefully, we will have some of these stateside for people here. We will keep you updated either way.

GHOLAS Poisoning The Airwaves

Gholas will be releasing our first tape tomorrow at our show at Red Planet. This is a tape of a radio show set at WKDU in 2009... it's been two years since then. Wow.


Anyhow, it is limited to just 20 copies (with the ability to download the set)... 5 are already spoken for as we speak.

We will be putting up ordering information at GHOLAS Central in the coming days.

These will be $6 postage paid or $4 from us in person.

Gholas News

So, Gholas is about to take a hiatus following our thing on January 24th, so come out if you want to see us one last time before we go quiet live for a bit. We just played Atlantic City the other night and it went well, though it was poorly attended due to a decent snow storm.

During our hiatus a few things will be going on in the Gholas camp (at least on my end of the deal).

1. Writing for our next record

2. Prepping the possible release of a live set (recorded on the 24th, so come out if you want to be immortalized on tape).

3. Well not during the hiatus as we should have them by the 24th, but anyway, we will have our first tape release Poisoning The Airwaves available. Pre-orders coming shortly, we are just waiting on covers to be finished.

So, stay tuned... and maybe come out on the 24th. Look up our wordpress or facebook for more info.

On Gholas, Planning For Burial, and the Whole Weekend

The weekend was a blast, a blast. The Friday Gholas show with Dangerbird and pals went extremely well (screaming "500 Ft. High!" during the Dangerbird set is always fun). A good turnout and smiles all around after the initial hiccups were gotten over by peoples. Seeing friends and former bandmates is always fun (Creation Is Crucifixion still rules Larry, "The Data Body" and "We Live and Die By The Code!")

Saturday was fun as hell at the Planning For Burial / Lonesummer split record release. In a low key affair, Giles Corey, Planning For Burial, and Lonesummer gave everyone there a great earful. It was excellent to see such a great group of people enjoying themselves. Pick up the Planning For Burial / Lonesummer split while you are at it... here.

The Saturday evening Gholas show with Rosetta, Restorations, and Bats & Mice was awesome as well (we all felt real good after playing). A bunch of people seemed to have a great time.

Gholas Album Mastering Is Just About Complete

So, the Mastering Is just about complete for the Gholas album, Загадка. I seriously cannot wait for people to hear this sucker. We worked our asses off for two years to complete the album.

Another crazy weekend in the books

It was another busy weekend for the Gholas camp. On Friday, we produced another mix of the record that all of us seem pretty happy with at this point... fingers crossed...then it will be off to mastering.

Saturday we played a fun show with Mose Giganticus, Hulk Smash, and Grass. It seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves, which is great. We are lining up a ton of great shows this summer, and all of us are starting to get excited with all the places and bands that we will hopefully get to play with then.

Crazy Weekend Over...

...well, almost. Anyway, the Gholas album may be completed, finally. It only took about 5 months. We are listening to the latest mix and trying to decide if its done. In any case, the end is near. Today was our first practice since recording started and surprisingly was pretty decent. We have our first show since I think December coming up on May 8th in glorious Philadelphia; it should be fun.

Recording Day 10 / Mixing Day 1

So, last night Gholas finished tracking our album. We had a viola player come in and lay down tracks in certain places, and it came out rather well. I am excited that we have finished the actual recording process, but now the hard work begins...mixing.

Mixing is probably going to be a loooooong process for us, and we started doing this last night. I will say that even though we are nowhere near complete, this recording is much better than that of our EP. Joe did a great job so far in getting us on "tape".

Recording Day 9

Yes, almost all of the tracking is now complete for the Gholas album. I can't wait for people to hear it. All we have left is to record the viola parts and we'll be full on in the mixing stage.

We have actually been slacking so there probably will be no pictures to take for posterity's sake. Oh well. Now things can start getting back to normal.

Recording Day 8

Completed my vocals for two more songs, leaving just one more song for me to go.

Chris added a bunch of extras to his instrumental track...so that is just about finished.

This leaves us with two more instrumentals to work on as well and some other vocals by other band members. With another session on Sunday, I am hoping that we hammer this out then.

Recording Day 7

Yes, another long gap in recording the Gholas album.

Last night we recorded vocals for "...(The Emissary)", laid down guide vocals for "Tycho Dawn", and figured out how to record the drum machine.

There is still a bunch left to do. We'll see I have another session in a week where I hope to get the main vocals done for the rest of the record.

Recording Day 6

Yes, it has been quite a long gap in between recording sessions (daily life and grad school certainly can make such things difficult). Considering that this is my last weekend of Grad School, I am surprised that I was able to make this recording date.

In any case, today's agenda was vocals and possibly some acoustic guitar work for my ambient pieces on the album.

I tried to start vocals on "From Millions Of Miles Away", but my voice was not warmed up enough to attempt and the vocals just sounded so sour. So, I moved to "9000 Reasons", which is one of more straight forward songs. I was happy with my takes on this song and even recorded all of the background vocals as well.

From there, we moved back to "From Millions Of Miles Away". Recording this song was a surprising struggle because it is one of my favorite songs to play live, but we did get the main vocal tracking done for this. I will have to go back and fix a few things and add the background vocals later.

Lastly, I recorded roughly 10 minutes or so of acoustic guitar that I intend to incorporate into the ambient pieces that I have written for the record. I am definitely excited to work on those.

All in all this was a productive recording session.

Recording Day 5

Day 5 saw another exhaustive day of recording; this time John finally got to lay down the bass tracks. I actually missed this entire session, but it was certainly productive as he finished his tracking.

After day 5 we still have vocals and finishing or rather starting and finishing a great deal of the ambient pieces for the album.
