Tron Legacy

OK so I finally saw Tron Legacy. It did not disappoint. I went in to the movie expecting a real basic story but with awesome visuals.

What I saw was visually stunning. It took me back to the first that I saw the first Tron movie and left me feeling nostalgic and awestruck the whole time. I saw it in imax, which probably made it that much more awesome looking and looooooud.

Go see this.

Kick Ass...Did anyone else see it yet?

Went to the movies for the first time in a while and saw Kick Ass. Even for all it's flaws, this was an incredibly fun movie. If you want to see something fun, gory, over the top...this is your movie. Above is the R rated trailer...enjoy

Weird Childhood Memories

When I was a young tike, I used to watch movies on Saturday afternoons on TV. On one particular Saturday I was entranced by a movie whose title has completely eluded me for rougly 25 years. This movie has driven me almost to the point of madness as I vividly recall several scenes that bring back a sense of wonder and excitement. Now that I have discovered its title, I will be seeing it in the near future, much (surely) to the chagrin of my wonderful wife as it is a cheasy B-movie sci fi  flick entitled Laserblast. 

I understand that Mystery Science Theater 3000 lambasted this movie (I missed it then too); but I do not care. To call this a relief is an understatement.

Now, there is just one more movie from childhood that haunts me. If anyone can drop me a line if they recognize what I describe, it would be greatly appreciated. A scene inolves two rival pilots or something like that where one of the pilots assaults the other pilot and tosses him into a ventilation shaft where he is subsequently chopped to bits. Then the pilot flies the mission...

This is all I remember, but the memory is very vivid and real to me. It is the last movie that I cannot remember the title of and hope to one day find it.

Why I Have Such a Hard Time Going to the Movies

Has anyone else out there sworn off movies lately? There was a time when I loved going to the movies, but as time has passed I hate it more and more. 2008 proved to be the year that I saw the least amount of movies in theaters since before I could drive. The reason why is simple. People are rude as hell.

When I go to the movies, I go to watch what is on the screen, not talk to friends, not talk on the cell phone, not text people. In the past year or so while going to the movies I have witnessed in the theater: a couple having sex, talking on the cell phone through the whole movie, a fight between two groups of people, the movie stopping and police escorting people out of a theater, and a whole host of other events. Every single time, it was a ridiculous event.

So, Jenn (my wife) and I went to see the Spirit on Friday evening. For a while it looked as though we hit pay dirt and were going to be the only ones in the theater, but that was an illusion because as the movie began people were still filing into the theater while the movie was beginning. For the most part, the talking was at a minimum until several people walked out roughly midway through the film. It was all pretty disruptive, but it was not the worst experience that I have had in the movies lately. 

This caused me to think. Why do people go to the movies at all if they are just going to talk on the phone or to their friends? Couldn't they do that somewhere else? When I was younger the movies were a treat because I could not always afford to go. Maybe people kind of take the movies for granted now. Here's to not going to the movies again probably until the Watchmen comes out in March.
