Three New Release from Magic Bullet...

SSORC is an underrated and virtually unknown Japanese band that is highly revered in certain circles. Magic Bullet has made this album, Infidel Eternal, available for the first time domestically now on three LP color variations (the accompanying 7" has a multitude of variations as well) Marble, Pale Green, and Purple.

Previously only available on compact disc format in Japan (Obliteration Records, 2005), Infidel Eternal is the debut album from Tokyo’s SSORC. Drawing heavily from Scandinavian black metal influences (GORGOROTH, DARKTHRONE, et al) and infusing the crazed, violating ethics of 80′s Japanese hardcore, SSORC blast through traditional themes of nature, anti-organized religion, agony, woe, and despair at an unrelenting pace that never truly relinquishes attack. Accordingly, the band is actually comprised of former members of legendary extreme Japanese hardcore band G.I.S.M. as well os other noted acts such as MAGANE, ZOMBIE RITUAL, MÏSOGI, and MORTES SALTANTES.

With SSORC, their collective goal is quite simply “to terrify people, or to give people fear.” Mantras and themes of “Black Metal Terrorism” appear throughout both the album and the band’s limited public profile. The guitar tones are cruel and menacing, the bass is distorted and sick, Mutilation Under the Moonlight’s vocals howl with a pain seldom put to tape, and the drums blast forth as if they legitimately want to kill you. This is truly Japanese extreme black metal.

Available now for the first time on vinyl anywhere in the world, the Infidel Eternal LP+7″ features the entire scathing album and a special cover of DARKTHRONE’s “Unholy Black Metal.”

Track List:
1.) Step Into The Forests Of Your Dusk
2.) Caller Of The Typhoon
3.) Before There Is Light
4.) Bury My Coffin By My Own Hands
5.) Winds Of Plague
6.) Hell Is My Heaven, Pain Is My Pleasure
7.) The Relentless Agony Intimidates Me Into The Black Silence As A New Moon
8.) Downwards The Roots Of Darkness
9.) Fury Of The Mountains
10.) Below The Moon, Above The Earth
11.) Black Metal Terrorism

The Second LP In ATWA Series...

...from Charles Manson is now available via Magic Bullet. Trees is a ten track LP that comes on a multitude of color variations.

“Why come to me… with all this dying and all this fear and all this bullshit? I’m not into dying and fear. I’m into music. I play music.”
- Charles Manson c. 1988

Long before the fear, the media fixation, and cult of personality surrounding what we’ve come to know publicly as CHARLES MANSON, a 27-year old inmate at McNeil Island Penitentiary, dubbed “Little Charlie” by those on the inside, found true respite and solace in the form of a six string guitar. Late-blooming aside, MANSONtook to the guitar like a fish to water. This initially came much to the surprise of his first guitar teacher, fellow inmate and legendary Ma Barker Gang heavy Alvin “Creepy” Karpis. Sympathetic to MANSON‘s tumultuous, institutionalized upbringing (which saw him in countless orphanages, reformatories, and prisons all throughout his young life), Karpis would later pen “it (was) time someone did something for him.” And as Karpis would stick to his pledge, Charlie would not disappoint. By the time of his release in 1967 (some 6 years after his first lesson from Karpis), MANSON wandered into the streets of San Francisco already quite the accomplished singer and songwriter.

True to form, and no less than a year later, MANSON found himself both on the radar of major producers and in front of the boards of a legendary studio session funded by BEACH BOYS drummer Dennis Wilson. That recording would be titled LIE and ultimately saw release on ESP Disk on March 6 of 1970. To this day, it serves as MANSON‘s only formal studio session between his parole from prison in 1967 and the historic death-penalty-turned-life-sentence ruling handed down in 1970. Yet the influence of MANSON‘s music continues to be immeasurable. Wilson himself would re-pen the MANSON cut “Cease to Exist” in 1969 for the BEACH BOYS, who in turn recorded it for their “20/20″ album under the new song title “Never Learn Not to Love.” At the height of their popularity, and a full 24 years later, GUNS N’ ROSES covered “Look at Your Game, Girl” on their 1993 album “The Spaghetti Incident.” Current popular acts such as ALKALINE TRIO, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, and MARILYN MANSON continue the tradition with numerous covers, vocal references, and homages to both MANSON‘s songs and his life. Unquestionably, with each passing decade, the list of mainstream and underground artists covering songs from LIE and/or referencing the musical and philosophical work of CHARLES MANSON becomes both undeniable and impressive.

2011 marks a solid 41-year stint of incarceration for CHARLES MANSON under his life sentence. Through all that time, MANSON has been by all accounts almost monk-like in his commitment and continued work toward both his music and a personal environmental philosophy he coined “ATWA” (an acronym for “Air, Trees, Water, Animals”) specifically.

AIR, TREES, WATER, and ANIMALS is a 4-part, seasonal album series by CHARLES MANSON on Magic Bullet Records that brings together these two passions. Each individual album features previously-unheard, authorized, and exclusive songs with a sharp focus on the non-sustainable environmental conditions mankind has wrought for itself. The recordings span numerous sessions and are presented in their raw, natural, and unadulterated form. Each installment also features striking artwork and careful presentation centered around the tenets and philosophies of ATWA (including exclusive paintings rendered by MANSON himself). When all of the sensationalism, fear, projection, and knee-jerk response is stripped away, all that remains is a man named Charlie, strumming and picking away on his guitar and sending his passions into the ether.

Track List:
1.) One
2.) Our God is ATWA
3.) We’re Dead By Then
4.) Love is Knowing
5.) Before Before
6.) Prayer
7.) Zero
8.) The Enemy
9.) The Solution
10.) Taking it Away From Yourselves

Charles Manson's Inner Sanctum Repress

Here is the re-release of the Inner Sanctum 7" from Charles Manson, which was a precursor to the above mentioned ATWA series from Magic Bullet. This comes in four different cover variations: Ash, Clay, Kraft, and White.

Originally released by our friends at Holy Terror Records, Inner Sanctum was the first sampling of a grippe of recently unearthed and previously unheard CHARLES MANSON music played and recorded himself from deep within prison walls.

This is the original 7″ that begat the ”ATWA” series of full length recordings on Magic Bullet Records. All material appears in its original, raw, and unadulterated form for maximum fascination and authenticity.

This reissue is limited edition in nature and comes inside of a special silkscreened jacket made of entirely recycled material to complement the ecological philosophies contained within CHARLES MANSON‘s music and message.

Track List:
1.) Air
2.) Labor of the Mind
3.) Just Love Someone

The Upcoming Slate From Magic Bullet

... Looks downright awesome. Of particular interest to myself is the 3rd Sutekh Hexen LP due out in the next several months (one on Wands, One on Handmade Birds, and now this one), the Vermapyre / Ides Of Gemini split LP, and the SSORC LP. The represses look pretty ridiculous too.

...things are about to get beyond ridiculous later this summer/early fall. The following update is for things that are actually in various stages of production. I’ve omitted the “coming soon” list and other projects in the pipeline because this is more than enough for everyone to process right now as-is. If you don’t see something on this list that may have been talked about in previous updates, no worries… it just means that it’s not in this next crop. Here’s what we’re actively working on right now and what you can expect next:

NEW RELEASES:
• VERMAPYRE | IDES OF GEMINI split 12″
• SSORC Infidel Eternal LP
• SUTEKH HEXEN Behind the Throne LP
• CHARLES MANSON Trees LP/CD/digital
• T0-be-named-project 12″ featuring Ryan Parrish of Darkest Hour, Graham Scala and Brent Eyestone of Highness and Meditative Sect, etc. Currently being mixed.
• VERMAPYRE DVD (co-release with We Tried Film, a new film division within Magic Bullet)
• CHARLES MANSON The Inner Sanctum 7″ reissue (licensed from Holy Terror)
• BOY SETS FIRE This Crying, This Screaming, My Voice is Being Born. LP (marking the 15th anniversary of Magic Bullet Records and Magic Bullet #1)

Meditative Sect Free Album

Two things.

1. I do not usually do these types of things
2. This might be a bit of a late pass

Meditative Sect put out Laceration Points last year in a modest edition of 150 copies on LP. Now that it is sold out, the label is offering the album for free here, which is awesome. Go check it out. I really enjoy this album a ton.

Big China and Little Trouble LP

This (LO-PANNING)is a great little release (as in only 150 available) following up the excellent Black Blood Of The Earth LP from Big China and Little Trouble. The concept for this is pretty far out awesome, so I'll just plagiarize the Magic Bullet Blog:

The latest from Brent Eyestone (Big China) and Mike Haley (Little Trouble), Lo-Panning is another nod back to the John Carpenter movie that inspired the entire project (Big Trouble in Little China) and the David Lo Pan character in particular (played by James Hong in the film). The concept for the album was to create a comprehensive, fully-submersed analog turntable experience that is both a play on the “Pan” part of the characters name (listeners can hear and experience the drone emissions coming from both Eyestone and Haley sliding across the stereo spectrum for the duration of the program) and a fitting tribute to the mystical powers exemplified by the brilliant nemesis of the film itself.
Simply denoted “Part I” and “Part II,” both sides of the LP successfully capture the hypnotic, enveloping vortex of David Lo Pan’s ancient raw powers. A subtly constant and humming melody anchors both sides almost like a raga, as Eyestone and Haley blast and churn compositional improvisation across the sonisphere. The results are a deliberately glacial and powerful presence seeping and oozing away from the melted minds of the creators and into the listening rooms of the new hosts of these diabolical spirits.

Packaged in a hand-screened, 6-color print featuring an original Eyestone illustration of David Lo Pan, only 150 copies of the first pressing exist for consumption. Each is hand-numbered and features glow in the dark vinyl. The intention is for the entire LP to be listened to in a room with the lights off, the listener facing the turntable and equidistant from both the left and the right speaker. Enjoy.

Jesuit Discography

I love Jesuit and am super psyched that this is finally out...

JESUIT were an unrelenting, noisy hardcore band from Virginia Beach, VA. They existed from the mid-90′s up until the changing of the century. In their wake, they left a rather nice-sized dent in the intensely-PC witch-hunt/”safe space” era of DIY hardcore. Whereas events attributed to Charles Manson are often credited with bringing a savage and brutal end to the peace, love, and drug culture of the 60′s, events surrounding bands like JESUIT and GEHENNA not only elicited controversy at every tour stop, but pushed a movement toward hardcore finding its more violent, unpredictable, and entirely irreverent roots as the “Portlandia” cult of 90′s hardcore crashed to a halt.

Comprised of childhood friends Nate Newton (who went on to CONVERGE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and DOOMRIDERS), Brian Benoit (who went on to THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN), Brett Matthews, Kelly Posadas, and J. How, JESUIT managed to crank out twelve scathing blasts of fury and anguish in their time.

Discography features all twelve in reverse chronological order from the final 7″ on Hydra Head all the way back to the demo tape. All twelve tracks have been meticulously restored and remixed by Kurt Ballou at God City before being remastered by Bob Lipton at Peerless. The result is a behemoth of an album that sounds and feels more relevant than anything being marketed as “hardcore for the hardcore” today.

Discography also features completely revamped artwork from Florian Bertmer and Brent Eyestone. Both the LP+7″ and the CD versions are housed in lush gatefolds featuring a brand new illustration from Florian. Inside, listeners will be bombarded with inserts and extras galore. For the vinyl version, Eyestone has reworked and re-interpretated the original demo tape art into a stand-alone 7″ piece and built a massive collage comprised of hundreds of photos from the band’s archive and contributors like Dave Mandel and Jason Hellman. Both versions feature complete lyrics and a booklet containing essays and even more photos from friends and peers who experienced JESUIT first-hand. Great accounts from Brian Cook (BOTCH, RUSSIAN CIRCLES), Mike “Phyte” Mowery, Jason Hamacher (FRODUS), and more leave the reader in stitches as story after story paints a larger image of the pure chaos and absurdity that defined JESUIT to a T.
